I am hosting the next parent advocacy workshop this coming Saturday, and this time it will take place in Saanich School District.
If you’re not sure where Saanich is, you may not be aware that you drive through it whenever you visit Vancouver Island and drive to or from the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. Information about the school district is available at the SD 63 website.
Saanich has 8 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools in the district, along with some alternative learning. There are some activist parents in the region and I’m looking forward to hearing more about their work, and the opportunities being presented to children described as gifted.
The main advantage of the advocacy workshops is that parents are brought together to exchange information and ideas, and they gain strength from each other. In two hours we can just work through a primer in advocacy, but it is a good place to start.
